MOTTOWARE is a generic name given to earthenware pieces produced by various potteries in south-west England from the late 1800’s until the 1970’s. A wide variety of forms and decorations were used, as well as a huge range of mottos and sayings. Many of these mottos state a scriptural or prophetic principle, sometimes expressed in the vernacular of a specific region of the UK.
