Arthur Szyk (1894-1951) was a well-known Polish-Jewish artist and illustrator who developed an inimitable style closer to medieval illuminated manuscripts than any sort of contemporary expression. During the 1930s and 40s, he was a prolific illustrator for magazines such as Life and Colliers, famous for his political cartoons and anti-fascist pieces. Szyk's best-known work is probably the illustrated Haggadah, first produced in the late 1930's.
